Tips To Keep Your Towel Smell Fresh

Ah, Towels! That one item of our laundry that we rarely ever pay attention to. It’s really strange when you think about it because we use this item daily. Just use a damp towel after stepping out of a shower and you will see what we are talking about!

Yeah, using a soaking wet towel is bad and don’t even get us started on that godawful smell but you know what’s even worse? That odor is a sign that the towel is infested with bacteria!

That’s right folks! That musty odor is produced as a result of bacteria breeding and we all know how that can affect our health.

Scary isn’t it? The good news though is that there are simple and effective ways in which you can deal with this problem. Let’s take a look at these:

Before Beginning

So, first things first, before you get down to business, you need to make sure you have all the supplies available. By supplies, we’re of course referring to water, vinegar, and baking soda. Devices like washing machines certainly are useful but not everyone uses them.

If you belong to the category of people who use a washing machine, make sure that it is sanitary. All you have to do is simply run am empty load with ¼ cup of bleach. This will disinfect the interiors of the machine.

In addition to that, there are certain things that you need to address first as well. Bacteria often end up on towels through your body. The oils on our skin and sweat consist of various bacteria which doesn’t wash away easily.

Therefore, make sure that you properly scrub yourself in the shower especially in the sweat ‘hot spots.’ These include your groin, feet, and underarms. This will reduce the chances of bacteria transferring onto the towel.

Washing Using Vinegar

Start with running your towels through a regular cycle. Use warm or hot water along with normal detergent. Vinegar acts as a natural fabric softener and during the wash cycle.

Washing Towels Using Baking Soda

You can also run the towels through another wash cycle only this time you wouldn’t be using a fabric softener or a detergent. All you will need this time around is a half-cup of baking soda.

Hang the Towel

Make it a point to hang the towel after you are done using it. The ideal place to do so is on a rack since it airs out a larger surface area.

Never throw out a damp towel on the floor because this only ends up increasing the residual buildup of bacteria.

We would suggest that you hang out the towels to dry for some time. Once they are dry, toss them in the dryer with woolen balls. This will fluff up the towels and make them feel softer.

So, there you are folks. That’s your guide to cleaning up towels and ensuring that they stay fresh.
